About

THE WEBSITE

After many years of private and professional painting it's great to be bringing this site to you (thanks to the designers at Digital Hive)! It's a different concept in websites for solo artists and one that I've long dreamt of creating. The main difference with this online gallery is that its download capacity enables you to take immediate delivery of your image selection. The images are available in three formats and they are priced accordingly. EMP ProPix are high quality TIFF files designed for professional print production, EMP MidiPix are medium resolution JPEGs suitable for home printing, computer and iPad display and EMP Wallpapers are low resolution JPEGs especially designed for smart phones.

THE ARTWORK

All my life I've had a special affinity for watercolour. I love watching the chemical processes unfold as I paint! These images* were drawn from my imagination, usually in pen or pencil and occasionally in pastel. I then painted many of them in watercolour before spending countless hours rendering them in Adobe Photoshop. The filters interact fabulously with the various watercolour pigments and textures and ensure that each artwork is of the best print quality. Original artworks vary in size from 6 x 6 cm up to 560cm x 760cm and each has been photographed or scanned with great care.

*except 'Wealthy Woman' which was inspired by a photograph by Rupert Thorpe.

MY BACKGROUND

I trained as a graphic artist and animator in Melbourne, Australia. Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and animation was produced with painted cels and film, a highlight of my work (as Fiona MacKay) was to paint in the studio of Alex Stitt's animated feature film 'Grendel, Grendel, Grendel'. After that I completed the Graduate Diploma in Applied Film and Television (Animation) at Swinburne. For many years I've worked as an illustrator and artist for various journals and publications, in particular the journal 'Psychotherapy in Australia'. That work is reflected in the many images which are now available here for purchase. Much of my other work is being shown here for the first time. I continually upgrade the site with new and different themes and images.
